Rules

1. The page is the inventory

Hostile Homepage has 25 fixed positions. Text, images, links, calls to action, metrics, and other visible parts can have different owners. The project header, explanation, and legal pages are not for sale.

2. The first ownership is free

Each position's first ownership is free. A free claim requires an owner name and HTTPS owner URL; each normalized owner name and website hostname can be used for only one free claim, including claims later moderated. This is an anti-sweep rule, not verified-human identity, and using false identities or links to evade it is prohibited.

After a free claim, the next takeover price is $5.00. Every later takeover is 20% higher than the amount the current owner paid, rounded up to the nearest cent when needed. The server reads the latest ownership record and calculates the actual price. A price displayed in the browser is only a preview.

3. Checkout reserves one position

A free claim is inserted atomically only while the position is still unowned and the name and hostname remain available. Starting a paid checkout creates a 35-minute reservation for the submitted owner label, optional owner link, and replacement content. While it is active, another checkout for the same position is rejected. The reservation is not ownership. A paid takeover changes the page only after Stripe confirms payment and the server verifies the position, price, currency, session, and prior owner still match.

4. This is a direct purchase

No accounts, bidding, wallets, or subscriptions are involved. You choose a position and submit replacement content. The first valid claimant becomes its owner immediately; later buyers pay the current takeover price by card through Stripe. Payments are final once fulfilled, unless mandatory law requires a refund.

5. Ownership is public and temporary

Your owner label, optional owner destination, submitted content, amount paid, acquisition time, page views, outbound clicks, and place in the ownership history may be shown publicly and indexed by search engines. Owner labels are not identity verification. A position remains yours until another valid takeover completes, it is moderated, or the service or position is discontinued.

6. Links and text

Submitted destinations must be valid HTTPS URLs without embedded usernames or passwords. Text must fit the limit shown in the takeover form. Do not use misleading labels, impersonate another person or business, or submit content you are not authorized to publish.

7. Images

Images must come from a public HTTPS URL and be a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or AVIF raster image. ICO is also accepted for the favicon position. SVG, GIF, data URLs, uploads, and private-network destinations are not accepted. Images must be no larger than 5 MiB.

Visitors do not load the submitted source directly. The service fetches it through a server-side proxy, repeats network and file checks, and compares it with the version approved at checkout. If the source changes, fails, or no longer passes validation, a placeholder may appear.

8. Content that does not belong here

Do not submit illegal, fraudulent, deceptive, defamatory, harassing, hateful, violent, sexually explicit, exploitative, or privacy-invasive content. Malware, phishing, scams, impersonation, infringement, unsafe downloads, and promotion of goods or services you cannot legally offer are also prohibited.

9. Moderation

We may refuse, hide, or disable any ownership record or position when needed for safety, legal compliance, rights complaints, or enforcement of these rules. Moderation can remove content and disable its image and outbound links without rewriting the historical payment record. Removal for a rules violation does not create a refund except where mandatory law says otherwise.
